In several parts of the United Kingdom London, demonstrators have marched in peaceful protests against mandating vaccines for health workers. Some health experts however think that all health care professionals have a duty to make sure they are protected. The policy of mandatory vaccines for all healthcare staff is seen as a way to make sure everyone is protected and as safe as possible.
Currently it appears that staff who work with patients and choose not to be vaccinated will be redeployed where that is possible, or potentially dismissed. While health bosses are worried about exacerbating staff shortages at a time when the NHS service is under huge operational pressures, several experts back the policy.
There have been calls upon government to rethink the policy. The prime minister has however told the House of Commons the plan was supported by the NHS and that healthcare workers had a “professional responsibility” to get the jab. Front line staff routinely look after the most vulnerable people in society, who could face serious health consequences if exposed to the virus. For now at least, ensuring staff are vaccinated seems to be the right thing to do to protect patients and those in care.
